Halloween Story 3: IFC Alfred's Monster Part 2

So, where did we leave off? Oh, that's right! In Part 1, we met a ten year old genius named Alfred. He was so smart that everyone stayed away from him, including his parents! They were intimidated by his intelligence. Then, one day, a gigantic flaming red dog started to follow him.

It had blood red eyes and a huge drooling mouth with a pink flopping tongue the size of a python. It would appear whenever Alfred was alone and Alfred began to get scared. He thought the dog wanted to make a meal out of him! 

So Alfred created a secret laboratory in the IFC building in Hong Kong. His laboratory was located on the very, very, VERY top floor. He wanted to use the lasers of the light show to make his very own monster. He was going to use this monster to protect him. Thus ends the recap.

 Now, his laboratory is very large. It has smooth metal walls that are so clean that they glow in the dark. Either that or there are so many chemicals on them that it makes them shine... The floor is made out of a squeaky white plastic because Alfred always saw that type of floor in movies and he thought all mad scientists' laboratories needed them. There were multiple long tables made out of a blue material that couldn't burn, melt, or freeze. Perfect for surviving experiments! On each table were bottles and bubbling vials of gassy liquids...

The monster that Alfred wanted to make was inspired by another monster made by another mad scientist. This scientist's name was Frankenstein and his monster was called Frankenstein's monster (very creative...). Alfred wanted to be different though. He decided to make his monster out of CANDY! 

He started to collect everything he needed in the days leading up to Halloween. He bought up ALL the candy at Welcome and Taste and 7-Eleven. Finally, it was time.

On a table in the center of his laboratory, he placed his creation. It was a mixture of all sorts of different candies. Its skin was made from green jello which Alfred had made harder. Its eyes were fake yellow marshmallow eyes that stores sell right before Halloween. Its mouth was made out of black licorice. Its hair  was made of upside down lollipops and its fingers and toes were candy corn.

After days and nights of preparation, Alfred could not have been more excited! It was his masterpiece. He opened up the window that was right above the monster's body. Putting on his goggles, Alfred readied himself for the experiment. Just as it turned eight o'clock and the light show began, Alfred pulled down hard on the great big black lever in the middle of the room. Immediately, a beam of green light shot down on the monster. Alfred had found a way to redirect the beams of light! As soon as the green light touched the body, it began to move. Slowly its candy corn fingers started to twitch. Then its green arms started to rise up. Finally, its eyes flicked open and its head turned towards Alfred.

"IT'S ALIVE!" Alfred screamed in delight!

Alfred pushed the lever back off and shut down the light. The monster sat up slowly and then rubbed its eyes. 

"Are you real?" it asked, confused...

Alfred nodded enthusiastically. "I created you! Would you like to be my friend and protect me from the dog monster that is following me?"

The monster smiled and shyly said, "I have never had a friend before... Of course I will be your friend!"

They shook hands and then Alfred took the monster on a tour of his lab. Just as they were settling down to have some food, the monstrous dog appeared! Alfred immediately jumped behind his monster in fright. 

Alfred's monster stood up and walked towards the dog. Immediately the dog tensed it muscles and then POUNCED at the monster. Alfred watched in shock as the the monster playfully grabbed the dog and they started wrestling.

Instead of being terrified or actually fighting, the monster was laughing as the dog starting licking its face! When they got up, the monster had a huge grin on his face almost as big as the dog. The monster explained that this was a Tibetan mastiff. Mastiffs are very large dogs, especially red ones like this. They are very loyal and loving dogs who protect their masters.  This is actually a puppy. The adults grow to the size of horses.

The dog bounded up to Alfred and used her huge tongue to give Alfred a slobbery bath. Alfred laughed and they all settled down together to eat and enjoy the rest of the light show. After a little while, Alfred turned to both of them and said, "You both need names... Monster, your name will be Jack and dog, your name will be Monster!"

It turns out that this whole time, the dog wanted to be friends with Alfred, not eat him! The three of them became the best of friends and went on to have many adventures together. They were never lonely again.

Halloween Story 2: IFC Frankenstein's Monster Part 1

Most people think that the IFC is only a fancy mall in the middle of Hong Kong. Sure, it is one of the tallest towers and a part of Hong Kong's magical nightly light show, but it is so much more than that. The IFC is actually a mad scientist's laboratory! SURPRISE!

His name is Alfred and he is a genius. He could read the longest books in the world by the time he was two years old. He was taking classes in Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong University, and Chinese University of Hong Kong when he was ages five to seven. He won three Nobel Prizes in science and chemistry by age nine. But, even though it seemed he was headed very far, very fast, something terrible happened!

 Alfred didn't have many friends because so many people were scared of such a smart boy. They were afraid Alfred would laugh at them and think they were stupid. Alfred was a very lonely boy and didn't have many people to talk to. Even his parents thought he was too smart for them! That is why what was soon to happen to him was so scary. He thought he didn't have anyone to turn to...

When Alfred turned ten years old, he started seeing this big fiery red dog following him EVERYWHERE. Seriously, this dog was HUGE. It seemed as big as a horse and it only seemed to pop up whenever he was alone (which was most of the time). Then the dog would stare at him with its giant tongue hanging out, drool dribbling everywhere. Its fur looked like fire and its eyes seemed to glow red. Alfred had never really been around animals and he was convinced this dog wanted to eat him.

So, the boy genius did what anyone in his shoes would do: he built a secret laboratory. He thought that if he had somewhere safe to hide, then the big red dog wouldn't be able to find him. Plus, he could build something to protect him in his laboratory. He decided he needed someplace very big and with lots of power and electricity that he could use.

Alfred thought and thought and then he shouted, "EUREKA!" (which means "I've got an idea!")

Immediately he dashed to the IFC. It was the perfect place to house a laboratory. It was big, used lots of electricity, and, most importantly, was a part of the light show. The reason this is important is that the light show was going to help Alfred create what he needed to protect himself.

Alfred decided he needed a makeover, something to go with his new laboratory. He decided on this outfit:

If you ever visit the IFC and go to the very top floor, then there is a secret door that leads to an even higher floor! Then, you have to climb a hidden stairwell and that is where Alfred's laboratory is. The reason he needed such a high laboratory is that he needed to get as close to the light laser beams as possible. And the reason he needed to get close to the light laser beams is that he wanted to recreate: FRANKENSTEIN'S MONSTER!

Now, kids, for those of you who don't know, Frankenstein was another mad scientist and he brought a monster to life using lightning. Since Alfred is smarter than Frankenstein, he used the laser beams because they are more powerful.

Halloween Story 1: Never Judge a Ghost by its Cover

Not a very long time ago, there lived a ghost cow. Well, the ghost cow didn't exactly live but it stayed in the mountains around Hong Kong. His name was Fred and he was a very friendly ghost. All of the other ghost animals that are in the mountains like to scare people and were very mean. Fred was different. He wanted to make friends, play in the grass and eat candy.

Because of this, the other ghost animals made fun of Fred and no one wanted to be around him. There was one ghost named George who was the meanest of them all. He was the ghost of a vampire and loved to scare little kids. If any kids came near him, he used to jump out and shout, "BOO" really loudly! Then, he would pretend to bite the kids, even though he really can't because ghosts can't actually touch or hurt people.

Whenever Fred felt lonely, he used to go to the Peak and watch the people having fun together. No matter how cold it became you could always find families huddled together and watching Hong Kong's beautiful light show. Fred never went near the people because he was afraid they would run away. He knew that all of the other ghosts scared people so much that they would just assume he was like all the others.

 Then, something amazing happened. Fred had always noticed that every year, on a certain day in October, kids would come to the peak dressed up as monsters! He was always too shy to go up to them, but this year, while he was hiding in the bushes, one of the kids came up to him! This little girl was dressed as Little Red Riding Hood and she had a great big smile on her face.

She marched right up to Fred and said, "Hi! My name is Susan and I am Little Red Riding Hood, from the story! What are you dressed up as?" 

Fred, very surprised, stuttered, "W-w-w-who, me?!" as he looked around to see if anyone else was around him.

Susan laughingly said, "Yes, you, silly! There's no one else around. I saw you in the bushes and was wondering what you were doing hiding. It's Halloween, don't you want any candy?"

Even though Fred was very scared, he decided to be honest, "Actually, I am a ghost. This is not a costume. But I promise I am really nice and I don't want to scare you!"

Susan's eyes grew very wide and her mouth opened into a great big "O"! "Wow," she whispered, "you are really a ghost?"

Fred nodded unhappily, worried that she would run. Instead, Susan started smiling. "That is so amazing, what is it like to be a ghost? Is it fun? Wow, let's go show my friends!"

Fred was shocked, he never expected anyone to understand. So he followed Susan as she led the way to all of her other monster buddies. They loved Fred and wanted to take him home with them. They took him trick or treating and he ate so much candy that his belly grew to the size of a huge barrel. 

Just as the night was ending, Fred saw that George and his friends were about to scare some little kids. So, Fred and his friends decided to teach George a lesson. They snuck up behind them and all shouted, "BOO!" George and all the other ghosts jumped 10 feet into the air, screaming with fear. After they calmed down, they promised never to be mean and scare people ever again. 

After that night, Fred and his friends would meet regularly and he was never lonely again.
